Listen Here

Another Monday, another trip down Myspace memory lane.

Standard Recap: This is a series where I go through my Myspace blogs from 15 years ago and examine what I was thinking at that point in my life and see if I've had any personal growth.  Lets pull back the lever on the internet time machine and hop back to the wonderful year of 2005. (Disclaimer: I do go through and correct typos from the original postings. Other than that, all posts included all original text. No censoring or editing.)

Subject is it really like that?

Body OK, so I'll admit it. I like bad TV. My TV stops on any reruns of Saved by the Bell, Full House, Boy Meets World or pretty much any show from the 80s. No matter how many times I see them, even if I can run lines with the show, I feel a need to watch. Another type of show I'm "addicted" to are dating shows. I don't know why, but something about them draws me in and holds me by the.....heart. Perhaps it's the hopeless romantic side that gets sucked into the show. Whatever it is, I have to watch and when it's over, I'm often asking myself is that what dating is really like.

I have been on dates, but they were nothing like what I see on TV. Granted, I haven't dated much in the past 2 years, so maybe things have totally changed. .........

I've been sitting here for the past 20 minutes trying to figure how to say what is on my mind. Something about how dating shows are not reflective of the actual dating process. And trying to find the secret to successful dating. Then there was going to be something about how do you meet people. And some other things that I'm sure would be uninformative. Hmm...maybe I'll come back to this topic when I'm developed a full thought.

Here's a thought to leave you with, why are they called apartments when they're all together?

One correction I would make to this post is the removal of Boy Meets World from the list of bad TV.  Boy Meets World is one of my favorite shows and while it can be a little cheesy at times, it is far from bad TV.

I have stopped watching bad dating (redundant) shows. I've never seen an episode of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. Recently Mtv2 aired reruns of Next and Room Raiders. I tried watching them. I realize I was out of the target demographic when the shows originally aired and 13 years later, I could potentially be the contestants' father. That fact coupled with my experience in reality TV, where I can spot all the spoon fed lines, makes these dating shows nearly unwatchable.

You'd think after all this time I'd have more insight into the dating world. In one regard, I do. I have dated more in the last year and a half than I had in the two years I referenced in the Myspace blog. All I've figured out is 1)I'm not good at dating and 2)I'm really not good at dating. I'll leave it there as I'm aware there will be way more future installments of Myspace Memories that will deal with dating.
